Canadian politics
In the 1970's we protested. We never broke any laws, threatened anyone but just stood up for what we believed in. Today Canadians still have the right to protest. Agree or disagree with them, they crossed the line:
The protest originated by BC truckers who want the Canadian government to remove the mandatory vaccine requirement to cross the US/Canada border. Don't they know the US Government has the same vaccine mandate so even if they are successful they still can't cross the border? 90% of truckers are vaccinated so the protesters are a minority.
The protest had turned into a bunch of other "gripes". Maybe it's good people are venting their disapproval of the federal government. We just had an election so voting them out at the polls won't happen for another few years.

How low can Surrey Mayor Doug McCallum go? Well, here's the latest:
The City of Surrey’s ethics commissioner could find himself prohibited from investigating any new ethics complaints before the next election, should a bylaw amendment be approved at Monday’s city council meeting.
The proposed change to the city’s Council Code of Conduct Bylaw would “suspend the processing and investigation of complaints by the Surrey Ethics Commissioner in the period leading up to the 2022 Local General Election,” according to Monday’s agenda.
Monday's council meeting should be another riveting one. It will be interesting if the councillors that always vote with the Mayor will actually let this bylaw change pass. If it passes, it's about time out provincial government gets involved!
The Ethics Commissioner is reviewing why Mayor McCallum is allowed to chair the police board and sit in the Mayor's chair while he has been criminally charged. He's only been charged, not convicted but during the legal process, he should recuse himself off the police board and council chambers. Does the Ethics Commissioner have a recommendation or are they hiding something?

International Holocaust Remembrance Day
While talking to my cousin a few months ago she told me in 1945, her dad opened the gates of a concentration camp and liberated the prisoners in Germany. She couldn't remember which camp. On Thursday, National Holocaust Remembrance Day, I remembered the story so I emailed her older sister for the information and she answered me today.
Their dad was at Bergen-Belsen Concentration in Northern Germany. They said their dad who passed away almost seven years ago, never forgot the horrors he saw. If we are fortunate enough to return to Germany, I would love to see the site.
I'm glad their is a Remembrance Day so we never forget the Holocaust.

The end of COVID?
During the middle ages they celebrated the end of the plague with wine and orgies. Does anyone know if there is anything planned when this one ends?

Surrey City Politics, never a dull moment with McCallum as Mayor!
Tomorrow, Surrey Mayor Doug McCallum goes to court to answer for charges of public mischief for claiming a woman ran over his foot. According to the Criminal Code of Canada, public mischief involves "making a false statement that accuses some other person of having committed an offence".
My friend will be outside the court house protesting. Mayor McCallum told Global News he was on personal time doing his grocery shopping when this instance occurred. Because of the terms of the indemnification bylaw his legal fees are being paid by the citizens of Surrey! He's hired one of the most expensive lawyers in Canada, not any lawyers the City has on staff!
Our upcoming election on October 15th will be very interesting. Our mayor continually lies and is being sued by seven seniors that were banned from the city hall for three months because he didn't like what they stood for. They broke no laws, he just didn't want to see them! The only way he knew their names was by asking by-law officers to get names of everyone parking in the underground parking lot beneath city hall before council meetings! In December when the seven seniors filed a petition in BC Supreme court at their expense, he reversed his decision. Seniors having to sue to get into city hall?
He continually lies and has broken many promises he made to get elected. Last year he told us our taxes would go up 2.9%, ours went up 11% and we were lucky. Friends of ours went up 25% and businesses got hit really hard with huge hikes. Again, this year he tells us taxes will be 2.9%, should be interesting when our tax bill arrives.
Now his lies have angered the Mayor of White Rock. He's taken credit for something he didn't do! Let's hope his lies to the RCMP show him for the despicable person he is!
White Rock Mayor blasts Doug McCallum
McCallum attended the Vancouver Canucks game Saturday night. Masks are mandatory at Roger's Arena. From L to R City Counsellors: Allison Patton and Doug Elford. Developer Bob Cheema and Mayor Doug McCallum. I'm guessing another Cheema property development will be approved at the next council meeting.

Music has certainly changed
Cec gave his dad's guitar to Lexie as she's been playing an acoustic guitar. A string broke, surprise, we figure it's 80 years old. We took it into Tom Lee Music to get it restrung and found the bridge was ready to explode and it was a danger to play! So we looked at new guitars and then ended up in the piano section.
We bought a new piano! It's an digital piano but has wooden keys with the 52 moving parts on each key. It has Bluetooth so you can attach your iPad and it's way more than a regular upright piano. You can use head phones and it even has a built in metronome! It's on order and will be here in three to six months. It's quite the instrument and if you want to see what it does:
The musician on the video below has an iPad attached to all his instruments. It's pretty interesting how music has changed over the past 50 years!

You can make a difference
They told the future maternity patients they would have to go to Langley Hospital if they went into labour. If you live in Crescent Beach it's a 35 minute drive and there is a level train crossing that can add on another ten minutes.
It's had temporary closures in the past, but now they want to close it permanently. Thanks to our Liberal MLA and the citizens of South Surrey/White Rock who protested they have reversed this ridiculous decision.
I'm sure our health care system is in financial trouble and be prepared BC, more of these changes coming to a hospital near you!
