The Crown

The second season of The Crown was released by Netflix on Friday. I am really enjoying it!  Based on an award-winning play ("The Audience") by show runner Peter Morgan, this lavish, Netflix-original drama chronicles the life of Queen Elizabeth II (Claire Foy) from the 1940's to modern times. The series begins with an inside look at the early reign of the queen, who ascended the throne at age 25 after the death of her father, King George VI. As the decades pass, personal intrigues, romances, and political rivalries are revealed that played a big role in events that shaped the later years of the 20th century.

Claire Foy is doing an amazing job of playing Queen Elizabeth. Prince Philip is portrayed by Matt Smith. In Season 2 when he's spending 5 months on the Royal Yacht Britannia the men all grow beards. He has a resemblance to Prince Harry!

When Season 3 is filmed, Clair Foy will be replaced by Olivia Coleman as the Queen ages. I'm not sure if Matt Smith will play Prince Philip or when it will be released.

Earlier this year it was nominated for three Emmy awards, Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actress and Outstanding Supporting Actor. John Lithgow won an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Winston Churchill.
