Vancouver Symphony Orchestra

The theatre is magnificent
Storm brought her own band and the Symphony added their touch

Turn on your cell phone flashlights usually happens at rock concerts.  First time I've ever seen it at the Symphony
I love the foyer of the Orpheum Theatre
Saturday we went out for dinner with Paula and Gordon.  We had a delicious Greek dinner at a nice restaurant on Oak Street.  Then off to the beautiful Orpheum Theatre.  It was opened in 1927 as a vaudeville house and was the largest theatre in Canada with three thousand seats.  In 1973 the theatre group decided to change it to a multiplex.  A "Save the Orpheum" public protest group was formed and fundraising was launched.  On March 19, 1974 the theatre was saved when the City of Vancouver purchased it for $7.1 million with help from the Province of B.C. and the Federal government.  It closed in November 1974 when renovation and restoration was done.  In 1979 it was designated a National Historic Site of Canada.  They will continue the tours of the theatre this summer.

This was not your usual performance.  Storm started the show doing two great songs from Cole Porter.  She did her own arrangement and I was not fond of her rendition.  Her voice was amazing but the tempo was off, in my opinion.  The songs got better and she did a wonderful version of Elton John's "Yellow Brick Road".  She also sang some songs she wrote herself and her range and pitch were right on.  I look forward to more concerts in the "Pops Series".

It's time for Aunty Acid
