Celebrity Edge

129,500 Tons, 2,918 passengers, 306 meters long
If you are wondering about the Orange platform.......
Among Edge's most notable features: a 90-ton platform the size of a tennis court that will be cantilevered over its side. Called the Magic Carpet, it will move up and down the side of the ship serving functions that range from a tender boarding platform (when it's positioned alongside Deck 2) to 90-seat alternative restaurant (when it's positioned near the top of the vessel on Deck 16).
The Celebrity Edge is performing sea trials right now.  It was built in France at the STX Shipyards.  It's the first of four Edge class ships to be built.

This is not your parents cruise ship.  Cruising has come a long way.  This ship has a revolutionary cruise concept designed to shatter expectations.  It's a new era in cruising.  Watch the video and check out the staterooms!    Celebrity Edge Video

Edge will have a jogging track that spans two decks and winds around the ship's terraced pool area. A relaxation area to the aft of the pool deck called the Rooftop Garden also is on its plans as are six poolside cabanas with 20-foot ceilings for rent. Hot tubs will be perched on stems in what Celebrity says is a “martini glass” design.

Edge also will have Celebrity's first cabins for solo travelers.

I have an invitation to sail the Celebrity Edge on November 27th for a two day at sea familiarization trip thanks to Celebrity Cruises and my friend Jean who asked me to be her guest.  It's being showcased to travel agents before the inaugural cruise in December!  Our flights, hotel and rental car are booked.  We are ready to fly to Fort Lauderdale to shop at Sawgrass Mills and then board the Edge.  It's right after Black Friday so hopefully there will still be some bargains.

This in an infinite balcony stateroom!
The infinite balcony is designed to blend indoor with outdoor, Infinite Verandas make the balcony a part of the overall cabin, thanks to bi-fold doors that can be either completely closed creating a true balcony or left open, creating a sunlit indoor space that adds about 23 percent more space to the room. The balcony features a floor-to-ceiling window that can be opened when the bi-fold doors are closed -- again, creating the "real" balcony feel. When the bi-fold doors are open and the window is closed, the entire section is air-conditioned, giving passengers an expansive view of the outdoors with the creature comfort of A/C.

For people who have never cruised, I hear, "I get seasick", "I don't want to be confined", "I am worried I would be bored".  You would never be bored or confined on this ship.

Cec was never interested in cruising.  I booked a cruise in the early 80's, bought him a ticket, put it on the kitchen table and said "stay home by yourself or come with Cheryl and I".   I was working for the airlines and got a super deal on an inside cabin.  My mom decided to come with us so we had four in an inside cabin.  Live and learn!  My mom said "think of it as a motor home".  We had a bathroom/shower schedule and it worked just fine.  On the last day of the cruise, I won the bonus bingo and my winnings paid for the cruise!   Cec had a wonderful time and he was hooked!

I would NEVER put four people in an inside cabin again.  We've sailed in everything from an inside to a suite.  It all depends on the itinerary and price.  Alaska, we always go inside.  Caribbean, Hawaii, or places we've never sailed before get a balcony,  I prefer mid-aft but lots of time I get a guarantee and hope for an upgrade.  I get upgrades often, but you do take a chance!  On our next cruise on Sunday we have a mini-suite!  We booked a balcony but Princess gave us a free upgrade!
