Garry Point Park, Steveston

Yesterday we went to Garry Point.  We lived in Steveston for 35 years!  When we moved to Steveston there was a fish processing plant in full operation and Garry Point was sand dunes.  Over the years BC Packers ceased operations and sold their land to a developer.  Garry Point became an awesome park.  We went to the park planning meetings at the community center where people had their say on what they wanted.  Cec wanted a boat launch which didn't go over well.  The fishing industry owns Steveston and we found out at that meeting how much they didn't like sports fisherman.  There is a boat launch at McDonald Beach and on River Road just east of No. 2 Road.  Today when we drove down River Road, they've blocked the boat launch off with logs but the fishing pier is still there.

Garry Point is well known as a great place to fly a kite!  The cross winds are wonderful.  There is also an area that is low and in the winter it floods.  If it freezes, it's a wonderful place to ice skate!

We were on the other side of the park so I zoomed in on the dredge.  It was working!
