Penny Lane

While we in Liverpool drove down Penny Lane.  Paul McCartney and John Lennon wrote about their life in Liverpool.  They lived close to each other and had to walk down Penny Lane to go to each other's house.  There was a traffic jam at the roundabout, so I was able to get some great pictures.  The coach played the song when we were driving.  I knew the words and most of us sang along!

Wikipedia says:
"Penny Lane" is a song by the English rock band the Beatles. It was written primarily by Paul McCartney but credited to the Lennon-McCartney songwriting partnership. The lyrics refer to Penny Lane, a street in Liverpool, and make mention of the sights and characters that McCartney recalled from his upbringing in the city.

Penny Lane
Penny Lane there is a barber showing photographs
Of every head he's had the pleasure to know
And all the people that come and go
Stop and say "Hello"
Here's the Barber Shop

On the corner is a banker with a motorcar,
And little children laugh at him behind his back
And the banker never wears a mac
In the pouring rain, very strange
The Brick building is the bank!

Penny Lane is in my ears and in my eyes
There beneath the blue suburban skies
I sit, and meanwhile back

In Penny Lane there is a fireman with an hourglass,
And in his pocket is a portrait of the Queen
He likes to keep his fire engine clean,
It's a clean machine
Fire Station!
Penny Lane is in my ears and in my eyes
A four of fish and finger pies
In summer. Meanwhile back

Behind the shelter in the middle of the roundabout
The pretty nurse is selling poppies from a tray
And though she feels as if she's in a play,
She is anyway
Penny Lane Bus Shelter, in the middle of the roundabout

In Penny Lane the barber shaves another customer,
We see the banker sitting waiting for a trim,
And then the fireman rushes in
From the pouring rain - very strange
Penny Lane is in my ears and in my eyes
There beneath the blue suburban skies
I sit, and meanwhile back
Penny Lane is in my ears and in my eyes
There beneath the blue suburban skies
Penny Lane!

This is the sign Paul McCartney signed with James Corden
The locals have destroyed it, so they put plexiglass over it to preserve it.
James Corden heads to Liverpool for a special day with Paul McCartney spent exploring the city of Paul's youth, visiting his childhood home where he wrote music with John Lennon, performing songs in a local pub and of course driving around singing a few of Paul's biggest hits.  If you didn't see James Corden and Paul McCartney's Car Pool Karaoke:

On the other side of the roundabout is the church Paul McCartney didn't get selected for the boys choir!

This great statue was very close to where the ship docked!
