I've been involved in genealogy for many years. If you want to find out more about your ancestry, I suggest getting your DNA tested. There are many DNA tests. We chose Ancestry and linked it to our online Ancestry family tree. I have 139 DNA matches. I've corresponded with quite a few of my DNA matches. I've reconnected with the descendants of my maternal grandmother's sister who immigrated to the US in the 1920's. We found each other through DNA and it's been great connecting with them. I met their grandmother/great grandmother when she visited during my childhood and we visited her in Cupertino, California in 1958.
Ancestry runs an autosomal DNA test. All you have to do is supply a saliva sample that goes into an Ancestry DNA test kit tube for analysis.
Autosomal DNA test: Unlike a Y-DNA or mtDNA test, which only focus on one line of your family tree, an autosomal DNA test has the power to trace all of your family lines. Both men and women can take this test. Ancestry has specials throughout the year. Our tests in Canada were mailed to Ireland and took about two months to get the results. The results are sent by email and you can use a pseudonym if you want.
