Cloverdale Library

Yesterday I went to the second floor of the Cloverdale Library to do some genealogy research for a friend.  There is a notice on the door that said they would be closed for renovations from July 8th - December!  The building is undergoing major structural upgrades.

This library is the former Court House on 176 A Street.  With extensive renovations the Old Court House opened as a Cloverdale Library on Saturday, Oct. 15, 1988.

It's an old building that's been updated many times.  There is a wonderful family history library on the second floor.  Right now in the Family History section there are 5,000 microfilms and 3,000 books and they have run out of space!   I spoke with the genealogist who said they plan on moving the huge staircase to the rear and fill in the staircase so they will have more room for books.   They will reinforce the second floor to accommodate the weight from the books.  The first floor will be reconfigured also.
The staircase takes up a lot of space in the middle of the building.
They replaced the old stairs a few years ago and these stairs are much nicer.
There is an elevator at the rear.
During the renovations select library services will be available with limited hours at a pop-up branch inside the Cloverdale Recreation Centre.  You will be able pick up holds there.

The Family History Department will reopen at the Surrey Library City Centre branch on July 15th.  I'll be glad when it reopens.  The Library gives you access to Ancestry, Find My Past, Points to the Past, Family Search and Scotland Places.

I'm searching for graves in Scotland and they are not easy to find.  I've checked all the access available at the library plus "Find A Grave" and "Billion Graves" with no results. Many churches have graveyards.  The genealogist told me to contacted the local churches.   I sent off some emails to local churches in the area.  I heard from PCF Church late in the evening last night and they don't have a graveyard.  However, they are praying for me!   The prayers worked.  One of the churches emailed a government email address in Inverclyde.  They answered me this morning.  The records are kept there.  They sent us a PDF map of exactly where to find the graves!
I love the quaint feel of this community!

It's time for Aunty Acid
