Rising gas prices in Canada

I am not planning on buying a car soon, but when I need another one, we've decided we will buy an electric car.  I joke that I can't keep my phone charged but we do short trips so an electric car would work for us.  The longest trip we do is to Costco in Bellingham to fill up our gas guzzler.

For all my friends who question our US gas purchases:

Today in Vancouver the fuel at my corner is CAD $1.539 per litre
Costco Bellingham US$2.63 per US Gallon

I put in 18 gallons as my car was almost empty.  I drive a Honda Pilot.  I use this website to calculate my gas purchases:

Price per gallon in US $2.63
Price per litre in Canada CAD $1.539
1 Gallon = 3.78541178 Litres
US Exchange Rate $1 CAD = 0.7522 US

I just checked our Visa Statement and the cost of 18 gallons in Canadian dollars including the foreign exchange surcharge is $65.46 Canadian Dollars.   If I filled up at the Chevron closest to me it would have been $104.94 Canadian!

I'm glad the Provincial Government had a study on gas prices and this is their conclusion:
An inquiry by the B.C. Utilities Commission into B.C. gas prices has found that there is a “significant unexplained difference” of about 13 cents per litre in the price of gas in southern B.C. compared to the rest of the Pacific Northwest.
