This is my view this morning! We've had very cold temperatures this week and snow was predicted again for last night. It was minus 10C/14F when we went to bed last night.
My son-in-law Dave takes Hwy 1, over the 10 lane Port Mann Bridge and into Vancouver. He leaves before 6:30 AM and in good traffic would be a 30 minute drive. On Monday it took him 90 minutes. Yesterday it took over two hours! Hwy 1 is the connection across Canada. Somehow the highways department can't get the salt/sand mix right and the road is covered in ice. There is so much traffic stuck they can't even spread the mix!
The storm we had last night and will continue through today was predicted. They got it right. Today every school and university is closed. They are asking everyone not to drive. Buses cannot navigate the hills and sky train doors are freezing shut! Welcome to a Canadian winter.
Yesterday, Dave asked for a lieu day today if the storm did happen. Cheryl told her boss she would come in by bus which fortunately is only a two block walk and the bus goes very close to her office. Thankfully they both stayed home when they saw the roads. Of course Lexie is off school so it's a family day for them.
Tonight Maritime Travel is hosting the South Africa Information Night. There is a Collette Representative who is visiting Vancouver and done the 14 day tour. He is bringing his pictures and a nice presentation. We have a night set up at Everything Wine for South African wines and a wonderful presentation. The food is purchased and we are ready for our information session. However, both our Collette rep and his colleague are stuck in Victoria. Victoria is bad also and hopefully with the predicted winds the ferries aren't cancelled today. We are trying to reschedule for tomorrow night but Everything Wine isn't available. We can always use the office if we need to. We are waiting to finalize the plans.
We are staying in and keeping safe.
