Protesters

I've always respected protesters as long as they are peaceful and respectful.  In the late 60's both Cec and I protested.  We always made a lot of noise and never got arrested or did anything our parents would be ashamed of.

This was sent to me by a friend in Princeton:
While I admire why they are protesting, they are blocking our ports, blocking both rail lines and yesterday blocked our Provincial legislature.  It was the day of the throne speech which is the opening of a new session of Parliament.  They blocked every entrance and many people who work there couldn't enter.  With the help of the police, most politicians and Members of the Legislature were able to get in and it went ahead.  It's an awesome ceremony and I don't think there were any spectators in the gallery.

Yesterday, they blocked one of the busiest intersections in Vancouver.  Not only is it at the foot of a bridge that goes into downtown, it's just a couple of blocks from Vancouver General Hospital.
Broadway and Cambie
Broadway is the busiest bus route in the lower mainland.  It's the route to UBC!  Buses are being rerouted, but traffic is gridlock.  I hope ambulances are able to get through to Vancouver General Hospital!

Last night, after this picture was taken, they built a fire in the middle of the street, set up tents and are prepared to stay for a long time.  However, this morning at 6:30 they took everything down.  They will be marching to Supreme Court later and will be disrupting traffic in the downtown core.  I hope they don't decide to block another intersection and keep away from St. Paul's Hospital!

I believe in peaceful protests and so far this is peaceful, but they are stopping people from earning a living.  The province will get an injunction to remove and arrest them as they did earlier but they are huge in numbers.  While I sympathize with their dispute, this is no way to win over the public!

Happy Boxing Day!

We had a wonderful Christmas.  Getting together with family is what Christmas is about.  My daughter, Cheryl, had the entire family over and...
