Strawberries!

I always buy local produce.  When the season is over, I look for BC Hothouse.  I love the local farm markets we have around Surrey.  Our next door neighbour told us about a second crop of strawberries!   I tried to buy strawberries a few weeks ago and was told by the local farm here the season is over.  Don said there is a second crop of strawberries available on Westham Island!  I was disappointed in the strawberries I bought in Surrey.  They weren't very sweet so I made a pie with them.

Off for a nice drive to Westham Island.  It's located in Delta just past Ladner.  There is a one lane bridge onto the island and besides farms, it's home to the Reifel Refuge for migratory birds.  We visited there frequently when Lexie was young.  She loved to see and feed the birds.

Don told us Emma Lea is the best farm to go to.  It's a family farm that's been in the same family since 1885!  There is plenty of parking, an ice cream shop, a childrens playground and a shop that carries fresh picked strawberries, blueberries, local spot prawns, locally grown veggies, fresh pressed apple juice, SPCA certified beef, honey, flowers, frozen pies, jam and frozen berries!   What a great shop, with good social distancing and friendly staff.  There was a "MO BACON" food truck in the parking lot.  We'd had lunch but I bet the food would be delicious!

It was quite busy when we were there and no wonder, the strawberries were awesome!  It was a nice drive and a great way to spend an afternoon.
