I followed this lady who flew into Brisbane and was quarantined. I thought her posts were really interesting. This is her last post:
Day 14 of Quuaratine at Brisbane Marriott.
AND ONE MORE SLEEP TO GO.
We have had our last breakfast and our last lunch here (and it came with ice cream. What a nice treat)
So there are things that I have learnt in the last 14 days:
1. Queensland Health will pay for the taxi back to the airport but not anywhere else.
2. The hotel controls the departure arrangements.
3. The Police and the Army control the fresh air breaks. They have 2 shifts and the 2nd shift is from 2 till 10 pm. They are pulled from their normal duties to do a 2 week quarantine stint but do not know prior where they will be deployed.
4. Arrival day is called Day 0.
5. You are given a room key that doesn't work on the door because the only thing you can use it for is to keep the power turned on.
And there are things that I suspected and have been confirmed.
1. Some people think they are the centre of the universe failing to realize that a little kindness and humility provides much better results.
2. Some people are incredibly kind to complete strangers making life a lot more tolerable. Thank you Shirley and Julie
3. The Brisbane Marriott staff work extremely hard to ensure that guests are as comfortable as possible. And their meals have been brilliant.
4. Queensland Govt and charity personnel have been clear, consistent and kind. Thank you
5. 14 days of Quarantine goes rather quickly when looking at it from day 14 rather than day 0.
A suggestion:
I would have preferred a dust buster over a hair dryer in the room.
and just some general ravings:
I am so pleased we bought a hard drive and tv lead with lots of films and tv shows.
I have not managed to complete everything I had planned and I find that I really don't care.
And very quietly, I think that I have enjoyed Quarantine. Its as if the world has taken a deep breath and given me time to catch up.
So here are my photos for the penultimate post of Penny and Ray do Quarantine in Brisbane. The menu for the past 24 hours and a VERY non complimentary photo of me in my quarantine clothing. -ugly but comfortable slippers, baggy and comfortable pants, long sleeved top. Definitely not a look to be taking past the hotel door.
