This and That

This has been a strange week.  The fires in Washington, Oregon and California continue to burn out of control and the wind blows north.  We walked Tuesday the 8th and that night I coughed all day and night and had problems breathing at night.  By Wednesday the breathing was better but the cough was still there.  So no walk.  Thursday Nancy came over to walk and we decided not to go the beach but to walk the neighbourhood.  We wore masks.  They didn't help with the coughing and we haven't walked since!  I really enjoy walking and really miss it!

We've stayed in as much as possible and kept the doors and windows closed.  Last night I made a nice dinner, baked ribs in the oven at 400F and boiled corn amongst other things.  Our house was quite warm but during the night it never cooled down.  I woke up with what I thought was a high fever.  No fever, the house was 76F!  The heat wasn't on, the insulation must be really good.  So tonight when I made dinner, I opened the doors and windows.  It's fine in here now.  The smoke is a bit better and we couldn't smell it when the door was open.  Canada Post didn't deliver any mail in Cloverdale or White Rock Monday and Tuesday.

I am picking up Lexie from high school mid-morning.  Her class is early and pickup is before 11!  She wears a mask and sits in the back seat.  They must wear masks in the halls, but can take them off in class.  She said "I put my mask on before I leave the house and don't take it off until I'm back home".  I'm glad she is taking this seriously!

When I picked her up today there was a class outside.  They were standing outside a portable, reading and listening to the teacher.  I said "nice to see them getting! fresh air but I'm surprised with this smoke they are outside".  Lexie said "they are deep cleaning the portable!"  Cheryl texted last night saying Lexie's school is one of four Surrey schools with outbreaks today.  She forwarded a four page letter they sent to parents that explains what is happening.  If your child has been possibly exposed they will phone you.  Send your child to school and monitor them for symptoms.  Lots of phone numbers and information for parents in every language if you don't speak English!

Our PVR has been acting up.  We record programs and sporadically we can't retrieve them.  Three shows yesterday were "not available", so I called Shaw.  One hour and twenty minutes on the call.  I got the nicest girl who typed a lot and asked a lot of questions.  She went into my PVR and ended up escalated my problem.  Someone will call within 72 hours.

Summary of yesterday:

Woke up with fever, thought I had COVID - Frightened

Lexie's school has a COVID outbreak - Worried

Shaw PVR box not working properly - Frustrated

Got weighed first thing in the morning - Horrified

Got mail for the first time - Excited

Now I'll reread the top of this post!
