I am a monarchist. I adore Queen Elizabeth and everything she has done in her many years as monarch. She's 94 and still working a full schedule.
I can't say I'm a fan of Prince Charles. We all knew he was having an affair with Camilla. Charles couldn't marry the woman he loved because she was already married. Charles married Diana so she could give him heirs to the thorne. Their marriage was a sham and it was horrible the way both he and the press treated Diana. Diana was bulimic and wanted to do self harm. No one got her the help she needed. Shame on them! When Diana divorced Charles she lost her security. If she had security perhaps the tragic accident in Paris may have been avoided.
Edward VII abdicated when he wanted to marry a divorced American. Of course that was not allowed by the Royal Family.
Harry met Meghan. A divorced American and half black. He was allowed to marry her as he is sixth in line to the throne so will probably never become monarch.
I watched the special with Oprah. First, if they want to "step away", why did they give Oprah an interview? Don't get me wrong, I like both of them but they are feeding the press. I was shocked at someone in the royal family said they were worried about how dark the skin colour of Archie would be! I was also disgusted when Meghan asked for help with mental problems and was given no help at all! That is unconscionable. If Harry would have married Kate Middelton's sister you can bet the children would have royal titles and they would still be in the UK with full security! I don't like to play the race card, but it is at the top of the deck in full view.
It sounds like Harry has pushback from Prince Charles. He stopped taking their calls!
I am happy they have stepped away. It wasn't what they wanted. They wanted to step down from senior royals to working royals. There are a lot of working royals. The working royals live in Kensington and other royal properties. They have security and do a lot of charity work. Why couldn't they let Prince Harry and Meghan be a working royal? My guess, race played a big part of this.
It sickens me the way they've been treated. It will be interesting to see what the royal family says regarding the interview with Oprah. I hope they heal their wounds with the family and Meghan and Harry live a normal private life.
I also hope they never do another interview although I enjoyed the interview last night.
They've just given the writers of The Crown a few good episodes for Season 5. It is beginning to film in June.
When Charles is crowned King, I will relinquish my membership with the Canadian Monarchist society.
