Residential schools!

 

Kamloops Indian Residential School

I know two people who attended residential schools!  They had trouble talking about the horrors they went through.  One school was in BC and the other in Manitoba,  All the residential schools were funded by the Federal Government and run by churches.  My friends went to one Catholic and one Anglican Church Residential School.  People blame the government and while yes, they let it continue, the churches let the neglect and both physical and sexual abuse go on for years.   One of the students was taken at age 5 and the school was across the street from his home.  He would look out the window and see his parents!  He wasn't allowed to go home except on school holidays.

When I worked at Kings Links one of the members opened up to me.  We would talk most mornings when it was quiet and he told me things he never even told his wife!   Both these people have now passed away.  

At the Kamloops Residential School above, 215 children's bodies were found in unmarked graves!   This school was in operation from 1890 to 1969.   

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission issued its final report on residential schools more than five years ago. The nearly 4,000-page account details the harsh mistreatment inflicted on Indigenous children at the institutions, where at least 3,200 children died amid abuse and neglect.
