More on Surrey politics!

That statement was released yesterday in the late afternoon.  The city bylaw states "anyone who is being investigated cannot vote on changes to the Ethics commissioner".  The statement refers to misinformation but the change they wanted was very clear.  They didn't want any new investigations into city councillors or the mayor before the next civil election that's scheduled in nine months.  It was reported on every TV news channel all weekend.

Right now there are two people on council being investigated.  Councillor Mandeep Nagra whose family purchased a bowling alley.  It is beside the road the city is putting through Bear Creek Park.  He didn't recuse himself when they voted on the controversial road.  And of course the Mayor who has been criminally charged.  It makes you wonder why they want to suspend further investigations for nine months before the next civic election.  What are they hiding?  The motion would not pass because they don't have the votes to pass it!  So, 90 minutes before the council meeting, put out a press release.

I would be asking the ethics commissioner to check on the "coincidence" Mayor Doug McCallum and two city councillors are in the a corporate box at a Vancouver Canucks hockey game las weekend with a city's developer who wants to built a casino in the South Campbell Heights.  Thanks to the Metro Vancouver mayors, it's being halted and studied more.
