Last Wednesday at lunch I was reading twitter. Richard Zussman a reporter for our local tv station, posted a tweet that said "spring break, are you going away, what do you think". He posted his email so I emailed him.
For two years, I've been promising Lexie a cruise. She's one cruise away from becoming "Elite" on Princess. She will be 17 and she's had 14 cruises on Princess. She has also sailed on Celebrity and a few on Royal Caribbean. She loves to cruise and is so easy to take. At Christmas, I said "the spring break cruise doesn't look like it will be possible". I also said "do you still want to travel with your grandparents". Her answer was "of course, I love going with you and grandpa!". I tried hard not to cry because that wasn't the answer I thought she would give me.
I booked our air to Los Angeles and I paid a refundable deposit on the Majestic Princess, 7 days at spring break. We would get a mini suite so she could have her "area" as it can be curtained off and she gets her own TV! When it came time for final payment, I cancelled and told her we still have the air fare, but I won't book the cruise unless things are better. We need to wait and see what happens in the next few weeks.
Cec and I discussed it and decided we will go to Alaska in the summer. There are no seven day return sailings leaving from Vancouver so we'll board one out of Seattle on the brand new Discovery Princess. We can drive to the Seattle port and park our car or we can take Quick Shuttle. That's much easier than trying to fly with the mandatory PCR test requirements.
I told Richard Zussman of our cancelled plans and he asked to Zoom. My reply was "just us". He said "yes" and we had a good conversation. Half way through he asked if he could record it and I agreed. I was shocked when it was on TV. I'm glad I got my point across and I hope the federal government will relax the PCR test rule for triple vaccinated Canadians returning to their homes. It's ridiculous!
After it aired, my phone, texts, and emails from people I hadn't heard from in months was awesome!
