Cost of COVID testing for travel

Last November a friend from Toronto asked me to help him get an rapid antigen test as he required it to fly to San Diego from Vancouver to see his daughter and grandchildren.  He is a retired Air Canada pilot who lives in Toronto.  When I gave him the prices, he said "that's ridiculous, I can get one at Shoppers Drug Mart in Toronto for $40.00!".

We need an antigen test to board our cruise ship.  The cost of the rapid antigen tests where I live range from $100 - $120.  At YVR Airport they range from $70 - $79!   I saw a post that said Costco is offering tests for air and cruise travel.  Not available in BC, but you can get them in Alberta:

$16.99 and results in 5 minutes!   Why do we pay so much everywhere in BC for the same test?   I sent an email to Global Consumer Matters.  Maybe Anne Drewa can find out why we are getting ripped off!
