Mayor McCallum

Our mayor has been criminally charged with one count of public mischief.  The incident took place in September and the charges came in December.  His first court date was on January 25th.  To date, all they have managed to accomplish is continue, push for more time and move the case to Prince George.  He has not entered a plea or appeared in court in person.

Everyone has the right to a fair trial and moving to Prince George is probably a good move.  In other cases of charges, mayors have removed themselves from office until it's resolved.  Our mayor however continues to be Chairman of the Police Board and Mayor of the city.  He refuses to step aside.

Our Provincial Government has proposed amendments to legislation to put any elected representative who is charged on paid mandatory leave until the criminal offence is resolved.  This case is the reason they had to introduce this legislation.  He should have stepped aside on his own like every other politician who has been charged!

On Thursday in Prince George he had yet another session to set a court date.  On Thursday night this appeared on Twitter:

Cut off from the tweet.  I'll say it again:  Weird!

I'm glad the case is after our October 15th election.  I wish it was before because now everything is unknown when we vote.  Does anyone have an idea why several hours later, it changed?  Who would have stepped in?
