How we rely on technology

Yesterday, early in the morning hours Rogers, one of Canada's largest cellular, internet and TV provider went down.  The problems were Canada wide.

I have a Rogers Cell phone but our land line and internet and Cec's phone are all on Shaw.  I could not call on my cell phone, but thankfully we had service on our land line and his cell phone.  However, many people have cancelled their land lines.  A move they should think about getting it back.  My land line phone costs me $10.00 a month.  It's a great back up.

Many people had no access to 911!   People went to Tim Hortons, Starbucks and other coffee places and "tap" wouldn't work.  Others went to Wal-Mart, Safeway and Costco and their debit cards wouldn't work.  We went out for lunch to Red Robin and thankfully I had enough cash on me but our Royal Bank Visa card worked.  The waitress said "some work, some don't, it depends on the bank".

The most fun was on Twitter.  This was the first one I read in the morning:

Then the Marketing Department at Telus (their competition) took great pride in posting this:

A few hours later this appeared on Twitter:

The humour continued on Twitter throughout the day.  I loved this one:

People were in absolute panic today when they couldn't get a cell signal.  Many in other provinces didn't have internet or tv!  What will happen if we have a major national disaster?
