When it snows in Vancouver, you brace yourself. I always stock up on groceries and hunker inside.
The snow didn't start here until about 2 PM. By 5, it was getting pretty deep. We watched the news and saw some freeways had problems. It wasn't until 7:30 when Cec went out with the snow blower did we realize how bad it was. He saw a bus and truck stuck on 152. I went onto the highway cams as they are at our intersection and nothing was moving. Everyone was having problems navigating the hills around here.
I saw some disturbing videos of cars and busses crashing into each other on Facebook. Then someone posted Google Maps. Red means completely stopped, yellow is crawling. Check out Abbotsford, they are all green!
My neighbour who is in Arizona for the winter texted me. Her friend who lives in Surrey, not far from me was trying to get home from her work in Burnaby. She had been sitting in front of the New Westminster City Hall for four hours! The Patullo was obviously bad, then it was announced the Alex Fraser Bridge was closed in both directions. Busses were stuck and Semi's had jackknifed. Nothing could pass. Tow trucks couldn't get to them. It sounds like every hill in greater Vancouver was having problems.
The City of Surrey spread brine over all the major roads for the last two days. It wasn't enough and I hope no one was hurt during snowmageddon 2022.
Now we wait as it is going to warm up and this will be a soggy mess!
