Cec's father was born in Omsk, Russia in 1908. In August 1914 war was declared with Russia and Germany. Russian soldiers arrested his father who was sent to Siberia for four years. His grandmother was left with three boys and herself on a farm. I have the story of the family written by his Aunt in a book she published. The horrors of what this family went through are unimageable. In 1926 they fled Russia and walked to Hamburg, Germany. They boarded a ship to St. John, New Brunswick on November 26th. When they arrived in Canada they boarded a train and arrived in Saskatchewan, in the middle of the night, in the middle of winter. They always said they arrived in paradise.
His dad never forgot the horrors and how they suffered in Russia. I think of what they went through when I watch the news in what's happening in the Ukraine. I think of those people who are still living there and those who are fortunate enough to come to our beautiful country.
Carol sent me this MP4 and I thought I would share it.
