Red Hat Society Day is celebrated annually on April 25th as a commemoration of the anniversary of the first meeting of the Red Hat Society in 1998. It is a social organization for women over age 50 focused on social interaction and bonding. Nowadays, it is open for all women of all ages. Yet, women under 50 should wear a pink hat and lavender outfit, while women over 50 should wear a red hat and purple outfit, just like the poem "Warning" by Jenny Joseph says:
"When I am an old woman I shall wear purple With a red hat that doesn't go and doesn't suit me."I've been a Red Hat member since 2013. Every month we get together for a nice lunch. We all buy our own lunch and eat at many different restaurants, members back yards and in COVID one group met at a park, took their own lunch and chairs and sat 6 feet apart.
Yesterday, we went to Mulberry Parc, an independent living residence in Burnaby to celebrate Red Hat Day. They supplied our lunch and it was excellent.
We had afternoon tea. The sandwiches and goodies were excellent. We were met with sparkling wine or sparkling apple juice. They served tea and coffee and we met the cook!
