Passport Renewal

Our current passports expire in February.  I know it's no problem to use a passport that expires in less than 6 months to the US, but today I realized we are going to some Caribbean Islands and Mexico.  Mexico is a three month expiry, but the British Virgin Islands requires a six months valid passport!  Why didn't I think of this before?  I renewed my passport today, the day after a long weekend which would be a busier day at Service Canada.

We have a Service Canada Office right by our house and they now offer passport applications and renewals!  I took both completed passport renewal applications and the pictures we had done at London Drugs to this office.  It took only 90 minutes until I was done!  I paid an extra $20 for the 10 day service.  We need to go to the Central City Passport Office to pick them up, not a problem.  I go away with my daughter in 21 days but I could use my Nexus card if I had to.

Cec and I are going to the Caribbean in 49 days and we get to use the new passport with the cover that curls!

We have leather passport holders, but I will put both of them in a zip lock bag when we are in hot climates just to be safe.

Back to School

The kiddos are going back to school.  I was fortunate, I never changed schools.  I know people who did and it wasn't easy for them.  I wish this was posted in every school.

Happy Labour Day

The first Monday in September has been an official holiday in Canada since 1894, and in the United States since 1892. But the origin of Labour Day came 20 years before that, when unions started holding parades and rallies in Toronto and Ottawa to celebrate the successful 1872 Toronto printers’ strike – the original “fight for fairness” that won major changes including the decriminalization of unions in Canada.

Today, Labour Day marks the unofficial end to summer and the start of a new school year for children in Canada and the United States. It is a day of rest and, for unions and labour activists, a day to celebrate the accomplishments of the labour movement and the benefits of having a union at work.

Hello September

January has 31 days and so does August.  Why does January seem to take so long until February but September is here at the twink of an eye?  I'm a day late with this, but it happened before I realized it was here.

CRA sends me a letter!!!

I started working at 16.  For the first time ever, I got a letter from Canada Revenue Agency asking me for more information.  They wanted proof of a donation I made.  Nice to see they are actually checking income tax and of course I had the official receipt.

Thanks to Cheryl, she answered their request and uploaded the official receipt so I know it's done right.

That was a first!
