Caribbean Update

I read this article and thought it was a good one to share for anyone planning a trip:

Caribbean Back to Business

Fortunately, the vast majority of ports in the Caribbean are operational having received no or minimal direct damage from the storms.  Of the 62 total ports in the Caribbean region, there are 15 that are not yet operational, with several of those expected to reopen very soon, including some ports in the next several weeks.  As of Oct. 6, the ports not yet operational include:
• Grand Turk Island, Turks and Caicos Islands
• Philipsburg, Saint Martin / Sint Maarten
• Saint Thomas, USVI
• Saint John, USVI
• San Juan, Puerto Rico
• Roseau, Dominica
• Tortola, Virgin Islands, BVI
• Gustavia, Guadeloupe/FWI   • Jost Van Dyke, BVI
• Virgin Gorda, BVI
• Road Bay, Aguilla
• Saint Croix, USVI
• Ponce, Puerto Rico
• Marigot, Saint Martin
• Isabel Segunda, Vieques, Puerto Rico

Cruise line leaders have visited impacted ports and have met with officials to assist with recovery efforts. Going forward the best assistance we can provide is continuing to invest in the Caribbean’s recovery and economy, as tourism is their number one ‘product.’ Cruise lines are taking thousands of guests each day to beautiful destinations, such as the Bahamas, Cuba, Cayman Islands, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic. The resiliency of the Caribbean countries cannot be overstated, and we are cautiously optimistic that that impacted ports will be open again by the end of the year. The Caribbean has long been the world’s most popular region for cruise vacations and will continue to be  so for a long time to come.

If anyone wants a cheap cruise this fall, the prices keep dropping!  Itineraries have changed but the uncertainty has many cancelling.  Not us, we are thrilled to be sailing in 23 days!
