HAVE Culinary Training Society

Today our Red Hat group went to HAVE Culinary Training Society for lunch!  What an incredible place.  The story of this Society is so inspiring.  It's in a very poor area of Vancouver.  Pat and I took Skytrain and the bus to get there.  Always an interesting experience!
374 Powell Street, one block from Oppenheimer Park
From their website:

The HAVE Culinary Training Society is a culinary training school that provides food service job training and work opportunities to individuals in Vancouver who experience barriers to employment. HAVE‘s students are youth and adults facing mental and physical disabilities, poverty, addiction and homelessness.

HAVE Culinary Training Society trained more students than ever before in 2013. Our enrolment numbers were record high and we expect to train even more students in need in the coming year. Over the past six years, we have successfully trained 700+ students with over 75% of those students gaining steady employment in the tourism and hospitality industry.

We met the Executive Director, Amber Anderson who told us every day they all eat breakfast together.  It's a way to get to know the students and make them feel like a team.  They also have lunch, which for some may be their only meals.  The feeling in the building is wonderful!  If you want a good lunch experience, try this place.  Beware of the part of town it's in, but we had no one harass us or make us feel unsafe.

Quesadilla
This was my lunch, a vegetarian wrap.  The vegetables were very fresh and the salad dressing amazing.
I had two cups of coffee, gave them  $20 and got $10.10 back!!!
Their breakfasts look delicious!
Good turnout of the Red Hat Group
Amber Anderson, The Director explaining about the program and thanking us for coming!
