Last week Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain both took their lives. Our family has been touched by suicide and we found an excellent information and support group. It's called HeadsUpGuys It's funded through individual donations and is based at The University of British Columbia. Dr. John Ogrodniczuk, Professor and Director of the Psychotherapy Program, Department of Psychiatry heads the team. If you know anyone suffering from depression please pass on the information below. If you are able to donate, we sincerely appreciate any donation.
This morning a segment on men's depression was broadcast on Global TV Vancouver.

Dear Friend:
Did you know that depression affects millions of men every year and is the leading cause of disability worldwide? The signs and symptoms can’t be ignored because when men don’t get the help they need, the consequences can be devastating for everyone, especially their families.
As men, we’ve been taught for generations that showing despair, sadness or other emotions are signs of weakness. We’re told we should just “snap out of it”. And if we don’t talk about it and it goes on too long, we withdraw, close down or shut people out.
If you or someone you know might be suffering from depression, I can tell you that there is help, hope and people available to get you back on track.
I know there aren’t a lot of places where men and their families can find the support and resources they need which is why our family business is a big supporter of HeadsUpGuys, an online resource created by UBC professor, Dr. John Ogrodniczuk.
This site is a great place for men and their families to find information, videos, stories and solutions about men’s mental health.
Our family believes this program and the online resource are so important that we’re matching all online donations until June 30th. I personally feel so strongly about HeadsUpGuys that I’m asking you to support it by making an online donation right now. And remember, for every dollar yougive, our company will match it.*
Over 600,000 people have visited the site, but I know there are many more that could use the services and information that’s on there. Men need to know that they’re not alone. With your support, we can help a million men around the world in their fight against depression.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Brad Newell
