Great Sunday with friends

Janice and Jim invited Carol, Dave, Cec and I over to see their new apartment and have lunch together.  I hadn't seen Janice and Jim's new apartment.  They moved from English Bay to UBC.  It's in a much quieter neighbourhood and easier for us to drive to with lots of parking.  They have a huge penthouse with a gorgeous view!  I should have taken pictures before we left for lunch.  I left my cell phone at The Diner!  I'll take pictures of their penthouse another time.  You can see Vancouver Island, the BC Ferries going to Horseshoe Bay and I'm sure if we are there at 5 PM, we'd see cruise ships leaving the harbour!

The Diner is a quaint mom and pop restaurant on West 10th Avenue.  The owners, Tim and Stella are both from the UK.  The Diner has a UK theme on steroids!  It's so cute.  Stella has letters from Queen Elizabeth posted on her wall along with many pictures and mementos!  When I told Stella my grandmother was born in Ilkley, she started to sing "On Ilkley Moor Bar T'at"!  I haven't heard that since my childhood and I remembered the chorus only.  She said "lets get Tim out to sing it to us".  Tim left the kitchen and sang all the versus to us!  I have him on video.  He's quite the character.

The restaurant has been here for 54 years, same wonderful owners

Tim and Stella
They served an English Sunday Dinner, roast beef, yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and veggies.  The roast beef was cooked to perfection.  They served it with horseradish and the tea came in a proper tea pot.  The tea cups are bone china.

When we left Stella gave everyone a hug.  What a great experience.  I've never left my phone in a restaurant before.  When we went back to Janice and Jim's apartment I went to take pictures and noticed it missing.  We called Stella and she said Tim ran out to find us but we'd already left.

Thank you Janice and Jim for the wonderful afternoon.  And thanks to Dave for driving so I could enjoy some wine.

One more sleep, let's remember
