Invergordon

Today we are in Invergordon.  The seas last night were very calm.  I know it can be rough sometimes, but we never even noticed any motion.  Not that it ever bothers us.  Inverness is the northernmost city in the UK.

While researching Invergordon, I found this interesting article on Wikipedia:

Invergordon is now the premiere mural town of the Highlands and hopes to emulate the success of her mentor in Chemainus, British Columbia. Currently the town is adorned with a series of 17 murals. The paintwork created by a selection of artists tells the stories of the local community and the area. This trail is a result of a community project which was initially designed to integrate local community groups (17 in total took part). The trail, which was opened by the Princess Royal, now acts as a major tourist draw. Now Invergordon Off The Wall, the group who facilitated the project, have just completed their latest project creating three new pieces with the assistance of inspirational artists,  Al Macinnes & Fin Macrae, The Mobile Foundry, Kevin Blackwell & Roddy Mathieson and Del Whitticase.

We booked an all-day ship’s tour.  We left at 7:30 and boarded a very comfortable coach.  Our first stop took an hour of driving through the highlands to Culloden Moors. It was the site of the fight for the throne on April 16, 1746.  Prince Charles (Bonnie Prince Charlie)  along with a 19 year old James Wolfe of Canadian Plains of Abraham fame and his father!  They were both in the Culloden Moors Battle.  The National Trust has a great visitors center complete with a film, and a lot of artifacts. We purchased a very interesting book as this battle was complex.

From Culloden Moors we went to Inverness.  We had a wonderful lunch that consisted of chicken, haggis, vegetables and a gorgeous berry cheese cake.  This the third time I’ve eaten haggis and it was delicious!

After lunch we walked by Ness River.  The bus then left for Loch Ness.  We saw the lake, but no monster.  It’s a large lake.  The weather is cloudy but quite warm.  It was a long but lovely day.  We drove through the highlands and it never disappoints.

Cheryl and Dave did a special wine paring and dinner at Sabatini’s.  We went to the dining room for Italian night.  The food is excellent.  Tonight the entertainment in the Princess Theatre was great.  It was a violinist who won a British Talent Competition and played in a Royal Command Performance for Queen Elizabeth.  He played everything from classical to Axel Rose!  Nice way to end the evening.

Tomorrow Edinburgh!  (again)
