RAPS Cat Sanctuary

Cheryl, Lexie and I finally got to RAPS Cat Sanctuary in Richmond yesterday.  It was raining but that wouldn't dampen our spirits.  It's located in Richmond on No. 6 Road between Bridgeport and Cambie.  It's a huge property behind Phoenix Perennials.  RAPS is only open for visiting on Sunday afternoons from 1 - 4.

There are a lot of volunteers with great knowledge of the cats.  The shelter houses over 400 cats, however, lots are feral and don't like people so they hide.  They have a lot of rules for the safety and well being of both cats and visitors.  We estimated we saw between 50 and 75 cats.

Rules:
No children under 6
Children under 13 must be supervised by an adult
Maximum two children per adult
Absolutely no admission to cordoned off areas (they are well marked)
Do not feed the cats
Move slowly around the cats
Be gentle and respectful at all times
Speak quietly, no shouting or raised voices
No flash photography
They asked we didn't stay any longer than 60 minutes

They ask for at least a $5 donation per person or $20 per family.  This helps with food and supplies.  Parking is extremely limited.  We parked on No. 6 road and got there early.  It was raining and I would think parking on a sunny day would be a problem.

Cats, everywhere!

This cat is a Seattle Seahawks fan!
I hope he knows NFL Sunday started today!

This orange guy is very lovable

Every nook and cranny had a cat on it

The two people you see, just sat there petting the cats on their laps
The cats jump on them, they don't pick them up!

Looks like a brother of Snowstorm aka Snuz.  His name is Timmy
The lady with the blanket on her lap comes every Sunday.  She knew the names of a lot of the cats.
I saw her put the blanket on her lap and Timmy immediately jumped on her!

Lots of seating areas.  Behind this area were more cats in fenced in areas.
There were wooden sheds for shelters for the cats.
The fenced areas would keep out coyotes and other predators.  It's a pretty rural area of Richmond.

They were all clean and full of cats in boxes, pillows and shelves

A box of cats sitting on a table under a patio umbrella, out of the rain!
This cat was sitting under a lamp.
Light therapy or heat, not sure but he was very happy.
RAPS has an animal hospital.  It's not for profit and is much cheaper than a veterinarian.  This is great for low income people and is located by the Richmond Auto Mall.

When you want your cat fix, go to Catfe in Vancouver or RAPS in Richmond.

So many things to celebrate today

Here are today's celebrations.  I am about to drink an espresso, have some cashews and cranberries and go to the SPCA and check out the ...
