Mary Poppins Returns

54 years ago the first Mary Poppins movie was released. Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke were fantastic in that film.  It's a classic!  Yesterday Cheryl treated Lexie and I to the sequel, Mary Poppins Returns. We've been trying to go since Christmas but either we were busy or the cinema was full.  At least you can reserve your seat so you know before you leave the house you can get in and will get a nice seat. We went to our favorite theatre with the lazy boy type seats.

Emily Blunt stars as the practically-perfect nanny with unique magical skills who can turn any ordinary task into an unforgettable, fantastic adventure and Lin-Manuel Miranda plays her friend Jack, an optimistic street lamplighter who helps bring light--and life--to the streets of London.  It's set in 1930's London, 25 years after the original show.  It's great to see Tower Bridge, St. Paul's and Big Ben in the background.  Scenes showed the outside of Buckingham Palace and The Bank of England.  They still live at number 17 Cherry Tree Lane, London.

The writers did a fantastic job in continuing the story as Michael and Jane are now grown up.  I won't ruin the story as I didn't know it before I went.  If you remember the 1963 version you will hear some of the original music in the background.   Some surprises in the cast. Meryl Streep plays an interesting character.  Dick Van Dyke (93), actually dances in the sequel and Angela Lansbury (93), who turned down a role in original film, took the part as the balloon lady in the sequel.

The animation was excellent
The new songs were great and the animation was so well done.  The Golden Globes are on later today and while I haven't seen many films, Lady Gaga is my choice for best actress.  Emily Blunt is a contender for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy.  Mary Poppins is a contender in Best Score and I must say those songs are memorable and upbeat.

It's time for Aunty Acid
