It's a boy!

Great news to wake up to!  Meghan gave birth to a 7 lb. 3 oz./3.26 kg baby boy this morning at 0526 GMT.  I'm happy they were able to keep this private as thy should.  Harry just said the baby was overdue and he doesn't have a name yet.  He gave the interview from Frogmore Cottage but they don't know if she had it at home or at the cottage.

I've been watching BBC Canada World news.  The birth of any child is wonderful and I'm thrilled for them.

From the Monarchist Society of Canada:

IT’S A BOY!
A beaming Prince Harry has revealed that Meghan and he now have a son, after a home birth at Frogmore Cottage:  "I’m very excited to announce that Meghan and myself had a baby boy this morning, a very healthy baby boy."

I’m so incredibly proud of my wife,” Prince Harry said. “As every father and parent would ever say, your baby is absolutely amazing. But this little thing is absolutely to die for, so I’m just over the moon.”

The Duke added that they are “still thinking” about what to name the royal baby. “The baby is a little bit overdue, so we’ve had a little bit of time to think about it,” he said. “That’s the next bit.” The family is expected to make a public appearance in two days’ time.

Canadians send love and best wishes to Harry, Meghan and their newborn son, whose birth we can all celebrate, since we feel that his/her parents are “ours” in a special way.

If you’d like to send a letter or card to the happy parents, Clarence House looks after their correspondence - make sure your mail bears appropriate postage for its size and weight.

Given security considerations, it is strongly recommended that you not send gifts, no matter how well intended. Far more appropriate would be a gift to  a Canadian charity (such as the Prince’s Trust Canada, the charity doing great work in the name of the baby’s grandfather) and/or doing an act of random kindness as an individual or family, and letting the couple know about it when you write them. That is consistent with their commitment to a life of service throughout the Commonwealth.

Once the baby’s name is announced, we will let you know the results of the League’s contest on the subject!  In the meantime, let’s all raise a glass at dinner tonight to the newest member of the Canadian Royal Family - a great opportunity to include your kids and grand-kids with a glass of Canada Dry or some other appropriate libation, and so remind them gently of the significance of the occasion beyond the media hoopla.
