Heavy rain that fell non-stop between Thursday and Saturday morning brought mud and debris down on many roads across the South Coast and on Vancouver Island. Fibre optic cable has been severed and is creating havoc on 911 lines and phones at two universities. Many people are without phone lines and 911 calls are now fixed, however Bell cellular is still down in BC! They are working to restore service!
Many roads are closed and the Sumas border crossing is closed as the road is flooded. Interstate 5 between Burlington and Bellingham had a slide and I-5 was closed earlier today.
Two mudslides came down on the Crescent Beach bluff and Amtrak trains are halted between Vancouver and Seattle. A state of emergency has been declared in Kent District of the Fraser Valley. Five hundred people are stranded at Sasquatch Mountain Resort in Agassiz. They were evacuating people by helicopter this afternoon and cannot tell when the road will be reopened.
Semiahmoo Fish and Game have a lovely spot in South Surrey close to the U S Border on 184th Street. It's beside the Little Campbell River. When Lexie was young we would take her there to see the fish and feed the ducks. There is a nice trail and a fish hatchery. We would frequently see school buses visiting the fish hatchery. It's run by volunteers. Every year they have a salmon bake on Father's Day and they rent out their hall for weddings. It's a gorgeous setting.
