Dear Evan Hansen

On Sunday, Carol and I went to the Queen Elizabeth Theatre to see Dear Evan Hansen.  I really enjoyed this moving story.

Evan Hansen is a high school senior with a social anxiety disorder. He is assigned by his therapist to write letters to himself about why each day will be good, which becomes the catalyst for the plot of the story (hence the name, Dear Evan Hansen). He has never had any friends and has had a crush on Zoe Murphy for a very long time. After Connor's death, he begins to tell lies of his being friends with Connor to the Murphy family because they may have found Evan's letter to himself folded up in Connor's pocket; they thought Connor wrote it to Evan.

The show explores poignant contemporary issues such as mental health, social media, suicide and the travails of being a teenager in the 21st century.

Today is going to be a good day was how he started his letters.  When you left the theatre it really gave you something to think about.  It left me with joy, not sorrow.  Very well written and the key players were excellent!

It's time for Aunty Acid
