Fraser River Heritage Park

On Friday, Laurie came over and we drove to Fraser River Heritage Park in Mission.  Alix and Jamil made reservations at the Blackberry Kitchen for 5:30.   The Blackberry Kitchen is in Fraser River Heritage Park.  It was Friday night and the trip out takes a while.  Instead of using Hwy. 1, we decided to take the scenic route.  It follows close to the US/Canada border which is closed right now.  8th Avenue is a nice drive through the farm lands in Aldergrove and Abbotsford.

I didn't realize it was the park we went to on my cousin Sharon's birthday a few years ago.  We took Lexie and Sharon's son's helped all the children paragliding!  It's a gorgeous park and this restaurant is in the park.

This picture shows the front of the restaurant.  It has a beautiful view of the Fraser River and Mount Baker.  Cec kept saying the restaurant was closed and we both laughed saying, "Jamil made a reservation".  Well, they had a mechanical problem and the restaurant was closed.  They wrote down his phone number incorrectly.  The owners know Alix and Jamil and gave him a $50 voucher for their next meal.  Trying to find a restaurant on a Friday with COVID closers proved to be difficult.  It's a good thing the sixth restaurant we tried in Maple Ridge had room for the five of us and off we went.  I didn't notice the name but it was excellent.  Flavorful California red wine and delicious calamari appetizer was a good start.  Laurie and I had Spanakopita, Jamil had Salmon, Alix had Seafood Fettuccini and Cec had Lasagna.  The food was really good and they didn't care we stayed for three hours!

On our way home over the Golden Ears Bridge we saw a lot of police cars on the northbound ramp.  We thought it may be a DUI roadblock.  We were sadly wrong.  It was a fatal motorcycle accident.  It was dark and you could just see the police car lights.

The view from the restaurant of the river.  It was a little "smoky" from the US fires.

There was a lovely rose garden at the park.

Six years ago, Lexie was paragliding in Fraser Heritage Park.  Sharon's sons put the younger children in the harness and ran so they would get airborne.

The landing!  Lexie loved it and so did all the other children.  The boys were exhausted from running with the lines!   It was Sharon's 70th birthday and all her children celebrated with her.  Four sons, three daughters and a lot of grandchildren.  It was an awesome day!
