I had a reminder to book a mammogram in the summer. I booked my appointment immediately at Peace Arch Hospital. They called to tell me all appointments were cancelled and would I reschedule. Of course I did and the first available appointment was January. They were closed because of COVID and have a huge backlog.
My appointment was Monday. I was the only person in the clinic. The changing rooms were closed and there was one chair to sit in. I was called into the room where the technician and machine are and I took off my blouse and bra.
In 2005 I had breast surgery. I was told by the doctor they analyzed my breast tissue and I have the tissue type that can turn cancerous. He said that doesn't mean you will develop cancer, but make sure you get a yearly mammogram. There is no history of breast cancer in our family. The government changed mammograms from every year to every second year shortly after 2005.
Yesterday I got notified on my ehealth, my mammogram was normal. It's a nice result to get. At the end of the letter they stated I will no longer get a reminder and should make my appointment in two to three years. Three years, really?????
I've already entered a reminder on my calendar. I thought I would pass this on so everyone in British Columbia is aware the usual reminder isn't being mailed out anymore!
