Food and kids!

Lexie loves to cook.  She bakes frequently and enjoys being in the kitchen,  She took foods in grade 8 & 9 but in Grade 9 when school went online they only did nutrition.  Of course it was part of the course but she missed the practical side of the program.

A few years ago, Cheryl looked into children's cooking classes in the summer.  I remember it was in downtown Vancouver but I think everything was full.  I thought at the time what a great idea.

There are advertisements about a new cooking school for children that has locations around the lower mainland.  I didn't pay much attention as the picture showed small children.  Apparently they have classes for teens on Friday and Saturday nights!   What a great idea and Lexie and her friend have registered.

The Little Kitchen Academy

Do you have a teen who loves food and wants to learn more about cooking and kitchen skills? Do they struggle to find somewhere fun to go with their friends, and want to try things they’ve never tried before? We have created LKA Late Nights just for them. Our Friday & Saturday night sessions are a fun place where teens can hang out with friends, make new friends, take great photos for Instagram or Snapchat, and leave with new confidence and skills in the kitchen.

LKA Late Nights will teach teens valuable information about nutrition, proper recycling and composting practices, eating locally, organically, and how our choices affect the environment and our planet. They will learn how to safely handle kitchen equipment to increase their independence at home. Together, they will gather around the community table made from 33,346 recycled chopsticks, where they will enjoy the delicious meal they have created together. In our fun, relaxed environment they will discover how to tweak recipes and create truly amazing meals they can recreate at home with family and friends.
