Stephen Spielberg remade this classic. Maria, played by Rachael Zigler is only 17! Tony was played by another newcomer Ansel Elgort and they were both excellent. The singing and dancing was very well choreographed. The music by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Soundheim brought back some great memories.
Rita Moreno played Anita in the 1961 production and won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. They cast her in the remake and she was wonderful! Today, she turns 90!
Not all remakes are as good as the original, but this one was excellent. A great way to spend a Saturday night and the movie was not busy considering it was opening night!
