Yesterday marked the 70th year, Queen Elizabeth acceded to the throne. It must have been bittersweet because it was 70 years ago she lost her father King George VI. There is a year long celebration throughout the UK, the Commonwealth and around the world as communities come together to celebrate the Queen's historic reign.
It started yesterday and then there is a four day weekend celebration planned for everyone in the UK! Those celebrations will be held in June from Thursday, June 2 to Sunday, June 5th. It starts with a Platinum Pudding Competition! Fortnum & Mason are inviting UK residents 8 and above to create the perfect Platinum Pudding recipe.
Thursday, June 2 is the Trooping of the Colour. The United Kingdom's long tradition of celebrating Royal Jubilees, Weddings and Coronations with the lighting of beacons will start. Over 1,500 beacons will be it throughout the United Kingdom. The Royal website says each capital city of the Commonwealth countries will light a beacon. I am hoping it will happen in Ottawa.
Friday, June 3 is the Service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul's Cathedral.
Saturday, June 4 is The Derby at Epsom Downs where the Queen and members of the Royal family will attend. The BBC will broadcast a special live concert from Buckingham Palace.
Sunday, June 5 is The Big Jubilee Lunch that will be celebrated in streets all over the UK.
