I was shocked when Okanagan Cherries were $6.99 a lb. last month. I know the farmers have had a tough time. We had lots of cherries.
I live in corn growing country. The Bose farm is about 1 KM away from my house. It's one of area's largest and every year they have a corn maze that's shown on the news. They are selling corn and blueberries but it's off 64th and it's a busy street so I haven't stopped there.
My favorite local vegetable market, Mary's, is right in farmland and I go there all the time. I see everything is more expensive but that's to be expected. I saw the above ad on their Facebook page. They grow all their own produce. $1.49 for one small cob of corn! No middleman, no trucker involved, it's on their farm! I was so shocked, I left.My neighbour was in Kelowna and I asked if he could pick me up six corn if he was stopping. In Kelowna, corn on the cob was $2.00 a cob, $20.00 a dozen! I don't know where it was from and I'm glad he didn't buy any!
Superstore is selling it for $0.49 a cob an my next door neighbour said it was delicious.
Blueberries by the flat from the farmers were $25 last year and $30 this year. Not a huge increase and they are really good this year.
I wonder what imported fruit and vegetables will be in the winter?
