Lexie turned 18 and is graduating. We all decided a cruise was needed. I booked the Discovery Princess for 7 days from Los Angles, the California Coastal. We visit San Francisco, Santa Barbara, San Diego and Ensenada, Mexico.
We couldn't take Lexie out of school so our flight left last night at 8:20. Going to the airport was very fast! Considering it was Friday, we expected a lot of traffic. We took the Alex Fraser and Hwy 91 and it was busy but moved quickly.
The airport was super easy. I checked in and printed our boarding passes. We dropped off our luggage and zipped right through security thanks to Nexus! The other line was very long and the Nexus line was empty! I wanted to try YVR Express, but it stops at 3 PM.
We had a good flight and arrived at the Embassy Suites South at LAX at 12:30 AM. We stayed at this hotel a few years ago before a cruise and it was great. Lady at the front desk was lovely, it was prepaid through Expedia. Lexie wanted a shower and screamed, it's dirty. We figured it was rust and it was. I went in and saw there were NO towels. Good thing she didn't shower. I called Housekeeping, phone was dead! So I called on my cell phone and 15 minutes later we got towels. I will NEVER stay here again! Oh well, we know how nice the Discovery Princess is.
I follow Don Terris a travel blogger. He always has good tips and information. He talked about a family who were on a cruise and decorated their door with fruit. Apparently there is a meaning of an upside down pineapple, see below. I guess someone turned the pineapple upside down for a joke and believe me they weren't amused when they got a knock at the door.
On a cruise ship, the secret symbol of an upside-down pineapple is regularly used as a code for swinging or “wife-swapping”. In most cases, an illustrated and upside-down pineapple is fixed to the cabin door of a guest interested in swinging and partner swapping.Apr 22, 2022
I told a few cruising friends about this and I don't think any of us knew about it. Cec wanted to go to the Dollar Store to get magnets. No, he's not funny. Anyway, Nancy next door sent me a text that said "have you looked outside". I thought there was a problem, no Nancy left me a present on my door:
It's nice to have neighbours with a sense of humour. I told her it should have been upside down!We sail at 4PM, heading for San Francisco. Lots of rain apparently in California but we have all the right gear.
