Hubbard Glacier is located about 30 miles north off the coast of Yakutat and is by far one of Alaska's most exciting natural treasures. How this magnificent block came to form begins about 400 years ago from the snowfalls on the slopes of Mount Logan. While most of the world's glaciers are retreating, the Hubbard Glacier has continued to thicken over the years and on rare occasions will partially block Russell Fjord, temporarily damming its passage. We woke up to fog, very thick fog. We got to Hubbard Glacier and the Captain took the ship 1/2 a mile to the glacier when the fog lifted, and everyone saw the glacier. It was raining so it was a nasty day, but the views were amazing. It's the closest the Celebrity Eclipse has been to the glacier all year! The rain stopped in the early afternoon.
Nostalgia Night
Join us for an exciting night of nostalgia at our RBA retro themed reception on Wednesday, August 16th. The dress code for the evening is retro RBA clothing from the old days or vintage RBA memorabilia like hats, ties, and pins. We highly encourage our guests to show off and come dressed to impress in garments that will take us all down memory lane. We also invite you to bring any old memorabilia or items that hold special significance from past decades that we can display at the party. We can't wait to travel back in time with you!
Nostalgia Night was wonderful! The Captain of the ship greeted everyone as they entered! The old company shirts, hats and paraphernalia were fun to see. I loved the Montreal Office who wore hats with safety cones on top of that hats that said "SOLD" in French on top Lots of RB stories and more reacquaintances. I hope they win the paraphernalia contest!
Everyone who spoke thanked Dave and Russ for the generous gift of this cruise. We were given another RB shirt and a trivia sheet to answer. The crib tournament is continuing, and we are having a group photo taken on Saturday. The fun continues.
