Last Thursday our neighbour came over and we watched the traffic cams and the news. It's unbelievable that with 2 CM/0.7 IN of snow, Vancouver was at standstill. Here is the traffic map that shows the red roads at a stop and the yellow roads, a crawl.
Our meteorologists tell us when to expect snow. With all the satellite images and technical equipment at their disposal, they are great at their predictions. They warned us for three days about a pending major snow storm. They predicted between 10 and 20 CMs/ 4 and 8 inches, however they did under estimate! It started here around 11 PM Monday night. It continually snowed until 3 PM Tuesday. I went out and measured at 3PM:
The black spec in the snow is the top of a 12 inch ruler! 30.8 CMs/12 INs. All schools and universities were closed. Canada Post suspended all service. All I can say is everyone I know stayed home. Some worked from home, others took a snow day. Thankfully we live in a strata and they have our road plowed. Our snowblower worked well for our driveway and sidewalk. It's so deep, we didn't get to any of the neighbours.
More snow is expected today but it will be light. All schools and universities in the Greater Vancouver area are cancelled again today. I don't recall schools ever having two snow days!
