Yesterday we crossed the Strait of Belle Isle to the shores of Labrador. Actually, we docked in Quebec but Labrador was just up the hill! The ferry crossing was very rough. It was 90 minutes normally, but took us two hours. They waited until just before we boarded to say the ferry was going. You had to sit in your seat the entire time and believe me, I wasn't about to get up. It started out foggy and then the sun came out and it was a beautiful day!
We drove to the Point Amour Lighthouse where a Parks Canada gave us an wonderful talk about the light house and all the people who manned it. It's the second largest in Canada. At the top of the lighthouse it was a lovely view. We had a boxed lunch as restaurants are not anywhere to be seen!
The next stop was the recently discovered Whaling Station at Red Bay National Historic Site. We learned about the "modern" techniques used in the 1500's by the tenacious Basque Whalers. The Parks Canada lady was excellent in giving us the years of history!
I'm having trouble with internet! Sorry no pictures of those venues, but I got some nice landscapes that downloaded.
Hopefully internet may improve tomorrow. It's very isolated where we are. The air is so fresh!
Back on the ferry tomorrow to St. Anthony.
