A beautiful local artist!

My cousin Nancy sent me a card with a painting from Esther Sample on the front.  It was such a beautiful west coast scene I inquired for more information on the artist.

The name of the first picture is "River Song" and Nancy has it!  Nancy tells me Esther's cards are available in her studio, all over Vancouver Island and in the gift shop on B C Ferries.  I will have to check it out next time I take a ferry.  I will order a calendar's from her website.  What an amazing artist!

Drawing from her years as a commercial fisherman and inspired by the rugged beauty of British Columbia’s wild west coast, Esther captures the essence of life on the water in her vibrant oil and acrylic paintings. Her work reconnects viewers to nature, light, and the rhythms of the sea.

Largely self-taught, Esther has devoted countless hours at the easel to refining a realistic style that has become her signature form of expression. She began her artistic journey with watercolours in the mid-1990s, later transitioning to acrylics and now painting primarily in oils. Whether working in her home studio or painting along local beaches and estuaries, Esther draws on her life experiences—chasing the ever-elusive light in pursuit of creating evocative, beautiful works.

In 2011, Esther made history as the first woman to win the Pacific Salmon Foundation’s annual Sport Fishing Salmon Stamp Award with her painting Hunger Strikes. She earned the honour again in 2015 with Flash of Silver. Her artwork has been featured in numerous books and magazines, exhibited across Canada and the United States, and collected worldwide. In addition to her painting, Esther has been a guest speaker for several organizations, sharing her life stories and artistic journey.
