Another Anniversary

Six years ago today I lost my nephew to suicide.  The pain never goes away.  He left behind a beautiful wife and two lovely boys.  It's not easy being a single parent but Catherine is doing a fabulous job.  

We found out about his suicide during our Thanksgiving Dinner.  It makes Thanksgivings difficult for everyone.  We need to be thankful for what we have, not what we've lost.

Yesterday was World Mental Health Day.  If you are feeling low, talk to someone.  There are many places you can turn for help.  If you ever want to talk to me, don't hesitate call me 24/7!

No Time to Die

 

It was Cec's turn to pick the movie and we went to see No Time To Die.  We both enjoy 007.  However, when I went to buy the tickets online I felt like a fossil.  Going to one of the large theatre complex's, my choice was:  Standard, IMAX, 3D, 3D DBOX, and DBOX.  I have no idea what DBOX is so I sent a text to my son-in-law.  He explained DBOX and said they purchased tickets for IMAX so I figured IMAX was our best option too!

Yesterday was the first day this film was shown and the theatre was full!  It's nice the way they keep the seats beside you blocked so it's a place for your coat and purse and makes you feel safe.  The show is 163 minutes and full of excitement.  I won't put any spoilers on this blog but if you like action and lots of special effects this is a show to see.  I thought Daniel Craig and Remi Malek were excellent as well as the rest of the cast.  A wonderful way to start a long Thanksgiving weekend.

Queen Elizabeth II

 

The 1st Royal Canadian Horse Artillery took on guard duties at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle this week, becoming the first overseas regiment to take part in Changing the Guard since the start of the pandemic.  Household Troops have guarded the Sovereign and the Royal residences since 1660.

The Queen retains a special relationship with The Canadian Armed Forces, acting as Colonel-in-Chief of a number of regiments.  She visited their UK accommodation and spoke to them about their homes and families in Canada.

Her Majesty has been Captain General of the Regiment since the Coronation in 1953.  Yesterday she presented the Captain General's sword which will be awarded annually to an officer who has demonstrated exemplary leadership.   The sword has been presented to commemorate the 150 years since the formation of A and B Batteries, which were the first permanent forces of what is now the Canadian Army.

This picture was taken at Windsor Castle.  What a great picture of Queen Elizabeth!  Canada is the country most visited by Her Majesty over the course of her long reign.

What do you do?

Thanksgiving is coming up and what do you do when a family member won't get the vaccine?  Well, it's not my house but I know a lot of families are facing this decision.  Cheryl decided her Thanksgiving dinner will be "safe"!  I whole heartedly agree.  She is only inviting vaccinated family.  She made that decision three weeks ago and now I hear Dr. Bonnie is telling us that is the right decision.

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) — Thanksgiving is coming next weekend, and many families are wondering how they can safely celebrate with each other, amongst the fourth wave of COVID-19.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said for those who aren’t already, the key to gathering together is to get vaccinated right now.

“This virus is still out there and if you’re going to have older members of your family coming together, then you want to make sure that everybody who comes into your household is immunized.”

Henry reminded British Columbians about the effectiveness of vaccines against COVID-19.

High Tea

Yesterday the Queen of the Sapphire Sisters served High Tea!  Queen Anne made all the sandwiches, scones and most of the desserts!  16 members went to her home and were treated royally!  

Anne is off to her winter home in Mesa, AZ for the winter.  She is still organizing all our lunches.  We will miss her and her wonderful hospitality!

Not everyone in the group knows each other.  Anne had a wonderful idea.  She passed around a jar with pieces of papers with years on them.  I got 1997 but Laura beside me got 1967 so we switched.  We went around the table and you said your name and what you were doing in that year.  I met Cec in May, got engaged in July and married in November.  Three of the women worked for an airline!   Lots of great conversation.
