I knew I had a Red Hat function on my calendar but never really read it until after I posted earlier today. The invite was for the free concert at White Rock Community Center from 2 - 4 to Celebrate National Seniors Day. The center was packed! The entertainment was excellent. Alysse Nielsen & Steve (Elvis) Elliott. Alysse performed songs from the 1940's and Steve sang songs made popular by Elvis and Roy Orbison. Our Red Hat Queen saved seats so we all sat together, In front of us were Wayne Baldwin, Mayor of White Rock, Dianne Watts former MP for Surrey-White Rock but just resigned to run as leader of the Liberal party, Jinny Sims, Marvin Hunt and Stephanie Cadieux all MLA's from our area. They all made short speeches and didn't promote themselves, but did talk about seniors and the community. Stephanie Cadieux spoke about the problems faced by the handicapped. She is not a senior but is in a wheel chair and is fighting for all the people who use wheel chairs and walkers. Mayor Wayne Baldwin said 34% of White Rock are seniors. No wonder, it's a great place to live.
Marvin Hunt pointed out National Seniors Day was proclaimed by the Federal Government three years ago. It didn't appear on the website I linked onto this morning which was probably from another country with a lot of ridiculous days.
