Pacific Crest Trail

Pacific Crest Trail is a walking trail from the Mexican/California border and ends in Manning Park, British Columbia.  The estimated length is 2,650 miles!

Rich's friend Gary came for a visit from Blythe, California.  He's walked most of this trail.  He wanted to hike to Monument 78 but wasn't sure where it is.  He drove to Manning Park and started the hike.  He was in Canada and of course it's not possible to cross the border on the trail.  He was looking for the wooden marker "Monument 78" to take a picture and post it on Facebook.  He walked about six miles and it started to rain.  The trail is not an easy one but he wasn't prepared for bad weather so he walked back.  I've sent him the information and I hope he goes back to Washington and finds the wooden pillar!

From the US Website:

What is Monument 78?

The Pacific Crest Trail ends at the northern terminus monument about two feet south of Boundary Monument 78 on the US/Canada border. The International Boundary Commission informs us that it was the 78th Boundary Monument from the Pacific along the line of the 49th Parallel. Many monuments have since been added in between the original monuments to increase visibility along the border. Most of the boundary work in the area was done between 1901 and 1905. These monuments mark the exact line of the international boundary.
