Haida Gwaii, arrived!

Yesterday we woke up in Prince Rupert to fog and drizzle.  It’s probably the norm for Prince Rupert as they get a lot of rain.  Our ferry was to leave at 10:30 AM but it didn’t leave until 11:45.  The Captain made up the time and we arrived in Haida Gwaii on time!  The sun came out in the early afternoon.

BC Ferries made all our ferry and most of our hotel reservations.  I couldn’t co-ordinate the ferries as the ships were full, but they managed to get us here.  When we checked in yesterday at the Prince Rupert Ferry Terminal the agent asked us for ID.  We gave him our BC Drivers Licenses.  He said, “you are actually BC Seniors!”.  I said “what?”.   He said, “you have no idea how many people say they are BC Seniors but can’t back it up with ID!”.  Apparently, we saved quite a bit on passenger fares going from Port Hardy to Prince Rupert and Prince Rupert to Haida Gwaii.  BC Ferries didn’t give me a breakdown on the price but it’s nice to hear we saved on the Seniors Rates!

We got to our hotel that’s in Queen Charlotte City, ten minutes down the road from the ferry terminal.  It was difficult to get a reservation as everything was booked up.  B C Ferries Vacations couldn’t find us accommodation in Haida Gwaii, but I did on Expedia.  It’s a great location with a gorgeous view.  Not a five star hotel with a swim up bar but clean and lots of plugs for our electronics.  I was thrilled to see a Keurig coffeemaker.

View from our hotel!

Our hotel is in Queen Charlotte City.  Don’t be impressed by the “city”, it’s not even a hamlet!  It’s quaint and lovely.  Right on the water and our hotel has a beautiful view from our balcony.

After we checked in, we walked to this restaurant for dinner.  I found it on Google Maps and it had a terrific rating.  No wonder, the food was delicious.  I had the duck pictured below and Cec had a pasta dish that was amazing.  We washed it down with Smithers Lager!  Nice to see they offer B C beers.  Restaurants are few and the pub closes at 8 PM!   I asked at the restaurant where we could go for breakfast.  The waitress laughed.   There is a small grocery store, so we bought two muffins and some granola bars!   There is a restaurant beside the hotel, but it’s closed because of COVID.

E-bikes, theft protection and laws!

This information is from the RCMP.  I never knew there were laws and penalties for e-bikes. WHAT IS AN E-BIKE? An electric bike, or e-bike, ...
